NGV Savings Program achieves conversion of 400 buses to natural gas in Peru

The Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines participated in the event "400 Buses Converted to Natural Gas Vehicles, Thanks to the NGV Savings Program".

March 22, 2025. The Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), through the Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons, Iris Cárdenas, participated in the event “400 Buses Converted to Natural Gas Vehicles (NGV), Thanks to the NGV Savings Program,” reaffirming MINEM’s commitment to promoting initiatives that contribute to changing the energy mix.

“It is essential to invest in other, more economical, and less polluting sources of energy that will help the sector move toward new technologies that are more environmentally friendly and provide better service for the end user,” said Cárdenas, regarding the migration from diesel to NGV.

The NGV Savings Program provides financing with no down payment or interest, over a five-year period, for the conversion of heavy-duty vehicles from diesel to natural gas by installing a new engine with Euro V or higher technology.

To date, the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE) has contributed to the modernization of Peru’s transportation system, financing the conversion of 400 diesel buses to NGV, a clear demonstration of the Ministry of Energy’s commitment to a more efficient, economical, and sustainable transportation system.

The Vice Minister noted that this is a joint effort between private companies and the Ministry of Energy, which always aims to develop the sector sustainably, focusing on energy security and the well-being of the population. “There are fewer polluting emissions, which is reflected in a better quality of life for the population,” she added.

“It is MINEM’s policy to achieve the widespread use of natural gas, investing in a sustainable and reliable source, with reserves of up to 8 trillion cubic feet and resources of nearly 40 trillion cubic feet, which could provide an additional 50 years of supply, generating a competitive economy and improving the population’s quality of life,” Cárdenas added.
