December 25, 2021. The Peruvian region of Cusco has its second natural gas vehicles (NGV) station after the Primax and Limagas Natural companies signed an agreement for the start-up of the project through an investment of more than USD 1 million.
Primax will have two NGV filling stations in the city after investments in infrastructure and technology, as well as logistical efforts to carry out this process.
The natural gas extracted from the Camisea wells, located in the Echarate district of the La Convencion province (Cusco), is processed at the Las Malvinas plant, transported via pipelines to the Pampa Melchorita plant in Lima, where using liquefaction passes to a liquid state, which is called liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The LNG is transported in cryogenic tanks to the regasification plant located at the NGV refueling station in Cusco belonging to the Primax Direct Operation network. Initially it is stored in cryogenic tanks at a temperature of -160 ° and then through equipment installed in the same station, the product is vaporized at room temperature and one atmosphere of pressure, thus returning to its gaseous state. It is then distributed to the NGV dispensers through a connection of internal underground pipelines, so it is ready for dispatch and supply to vehicles converted to gas.
“We are very proud to be the first multi-energy company to bring natural gas to the people of Cusco. With this, we promote the use of a more efficient and environmentally friendly fuel in the region where this resource originates,” said Yuri Proaño, Country Manager of Primax in Peru.
The construction of this station is part of the project “Natural gas for vehicular use in the Cusco Region”, undertaken three years ago by the Camisea Consortium, and which includes, in addition to the installation of service stations, a comprehensive program for the conversion of new and pre-owned natural gas vehicles. The transformation of 1,500 units in a subsidized manner is estimated. As of December 2021, there are 850 vehicles converted to gaseous fuel.
