December 16, 2021. Transports Barcos is a French family business created in the Hautes Pyrenees that supports the development of the regional economy since 1960. Today, it is a leading actor in the transport and logistics chain in the Occitania region with a fleet of 127 vehicles and 220 employees. Transports Barcos is also a true pioneer in the energy transition, betting on natural gas to reduce its environmental footprint.
In 2017, the transporter wanted to modernize its equipment with new units that run on biogas. Thus, the company has invested in the first five Iveco S-Way CNG trucks, ordered from the Parot-VI establishments, Iveco dealers in the sector, which have been destined to supply the department’s supermarkets. Subject to very intensive use, these Bio-CNG vehicles run continuously, day and night, six days a week. Jean-Claude Barcos, CEO of Transports Barcos, is very satisfied with the progress made with these units: “Today, after 48 months, the trucks have exceeded one million kilometers and are still as good as at the beginning. This achievement did not happen by chance. Iveco’s support helped meet this challenge, be it in advice and training, or in the maintenance of these vehicles in the brand’s network. We have also renewed our confidence in the manufacturer with five new 460 hp CNG units that we will receive soon.”
Transports Barcos’ commitment to natural gas was not limited to the acquisition of these trucks. The firm also invested in 2017 in the construction of a CNG station at the motorway exit of the Tarbes industrial zone, the first in the Hautes Pyrénées department. This facility is supplied by an anaerobic digestion plant developed by a cooperative that brings together 70 farmers in the region. “With this global approach, we are contributing both to reducing our environmental footprint and to the economic development of our region,” explained Jean-Claude Barcos.
