December 15, 2023. Iveco participated in the conference “Together towards Bio-LNG – New procurement management logics in the transport sector” organized in Faenza by the Caviro Group, in collaboration with Ham Italia. The event was an opportunity to present a project dedicated to the decarbonization of heavy transport and to raise awareness among transporters about the use of biofuels and Bio-LNG.
The collaboration between Caviro Group and Ham Italia began some time ago and was consolidated with the construction of the Bio-LNG production plant at the Caviro Extra plant in Faenza. The advanced biomethane, which Caviro Extra has been producing since 2019, is liquefied and enters Ham’s distribution network, becoming a valid solution for the decarbonization of heavy transport.
On the occasion of the event, Fabrizio Buffa, Head of Medium and Heavy Range in the Italian Market at Iveco, stated: “We have always supported the value of biomethane, which is the only mature technology capable of achieving carbon negativity with an autonomy of 1.600 km, a refueling capacity comparable to diesel and a higher payload. All of them elements that increase the economic and environmental productivity of a carrier, as demonstrated by the use of the Iveco S-Way LNG powered by biomethane for long-distance transport. Furthermore, promoting the development and dissemination of a technology such as biomethane guarantees energy independence, also creating new jobs and valuing the waste produced in the area.”
“The Caviro Group has initiated an analysis of the carbon footprint of all the Group’s factories and of scope 3 emissions, that is, those produced by our supply chain, including transportation, which significantly impact emissions linked to the activities carried out by the Group – stressed Giampaolo Bassetti, General Director of Caviro – Therefore, with the aim of reducing global emissions, we have initiated a process of support for biofuels, which necessarily involves the world of logistics and outlines the course future that the company intends to take for road transport.”
“With today’s conference we take another step towards the sustainability of road transport, understood in environmental but also economic terms – explained Aldo Bernardini, General Director of Ham Italia -. In fact, even today there are many transport operators who have not sufficiently explored the widely data-supported opportunities of switching to Bio-LNG. Despite the fact that the price of methane and liquefied gas continues to fall and the data shows that the comparison with diesel is accurate or, at best, aligned. All this with practically zero CO2 and dust emissions.”
