New natural gas buses to be delivered to Baku

August 26, 2020. According to the instruction of the Head of State to provide citizens with quality public transport, 115 new buses will be delivered to the capital of Azerbaijan.

The vehicles produced by the Turkish company BMC are modern, comfortable, and environmentally friendly. Eighty of them run on compressed natural gas (CNG) – 12 meters and 35 buses – 9 meters. The first to arrive in the country will be the 12-meter. The process, which will begin in the next few days, is expected to be completed by the end of November.

The import of buses will further modernize Baku’s route network, which is important from the point of view of a more convenient and safer organization of passenger traffic. The State pays great attention to the provision of public transport services at the level of global standards for safety and quality. By order of President Ilham Aliyev, some 603 modern medium and large passenger buses have been purchased and commissioned in Baku in the past five years.

Measures taken in the past to renew the bus fleet ensured the stability of urban transport during the pandemic. According to the relevant order of the President, in 2019, thanks to the purchase of 300 buses, together with the regular lines, 12 express lines were created, the number of buses on the regular lines was increased, which is important during the pandemic. In particular, the presence of 18-meter buses in the bus fleet is considered necessary to manage the flow of passengers during the morning and afternoon rush hours.

With the purchase of new buses, it became possible to directly connect the surrounding towns and cities, including the towns of Mardakan, Mashtagha, Bilgah, Buzovna, Zagulba, Sabunchu, Zabrat, Garachukhur and Bakikhanov with the city center.
