March 11, 2022. A total of 164 new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses will expand the Volánbusz fleet in 2022. 75 of the MAN Lion’s City 12 G low-floor vehicles will be available in the metropolitan agglomeration, 10 in Szeged from late summer; 40 suburban in Szolnok and 39 in Zalaegerszeg since this fall. The modern, low-emission units contribute significantly to raising the level of service and achieving the environmental goals of the Hungarian transport company.
In the summer of 2021, Volánbusz launched a public tender for the purchase of 164 new CNG-powered buses. The procedures were successfully completed and the successful bidder was MAN Kamion és Busz Kereskedelmi Kft. Under the contract, signed on February 28, 2022, MAN Lion’s City will expand the transport company’s fleet with low-floor, two-axle, not articulated 12G vehicles. All of them are powered by an environmentally friendly CNG Euro 6 engine. Natural gas generates less CO2 and soot emissions compared to conventional fuels. Additionally, these engines are significantly quieter than their diesel counterparts, reducing the environmental impact of noise.
