April 30, 2022. Seven new buses powered by biomethane enrich the fleet of Arriva Veneto, the manager of local suburban road public transport services that operates on the Chioggia-Venice route, in Italy. The vehicles, which will come into operation in the coming days on line 85 to Marco Polo airport, on line 80 to Piazzale Roma and later on line 87, were presented at Sottomarina, in Campo Cannoni.
The new units, the first in Veneto to use biomethane on extra-urban routes, were financed 90% by the Region and the rest by Arriva Veneto. These are compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, recognized both at European and local level as a valid solution for the ecological renewal of fleets and use in areas with low polluting emissions; They have a capacity of up to 52 seated passengers and 14 standing, and guarantee a range of more than 600 kilometers, thanks to the large 1,260-litre fuel tanks.
“Local public transport and sustainability are two concepts that always go hand in hand”, said Angelo Costa, President of Arriva Veneto. “After the introduction of electric buses in the urban system of Cremona, 5 new CNG buses in extra-urban transport of Udine and the project that Arriva Italia has stipulated with Snam starting from Brescia, now it’s Chioggia’s turn. One more step in an operation that is part of a long fleet renewal process in the name of decarbonization”.
